What a gorgeous day we got on Earth Day/ Good Friday. It could not have come at a better time, I mean, FINALLY!!! Pike Place was busy as ever, with construction and Seattleites coming out of hiding for one of the first days of sun in what seems like, forever. What a fun family. These dogs were so well behaved, and posed well for the shots. How cute.

Great choice in days guys! Sure did luck out amidst the constant rainfall. Feew!!

I first met this little girl 8 months ago, on he Birth Day. It's amazing how much they grow in personality and character in that amount of time. She was just a doll. Freezing, but smiling the whole time. One happy baby! It was great to see this family again... even if the weather was less than amazing. They rocked it!

Wasn't sure how the weather would work out today. First the reports said sunny, then they said snow, then they said pouring rain. We ended up with some sprinkling here and there.... which turned in to the most beautiful surprise of a sunset amidst the rain clouds. Some of my favorite images include sunsets, and these images are among my favorites for sure.

These 2 are too cute! I really didn't have to tell them much... they were just inseperable, and giddy, and kissy the whole time with out me telling them to be. All the laughs, are real. All the smiles, genuine. All the lovey dovey hand holding, it was them! They were so fun and so easy going. I could have sat there all day and taken pictures of them staring in to each others eyes. If it makes you woozy, you are just jealous! Excited for their wedding in just a couple weeks!!

It was a gorgeous day in Tucson for a wedding. This last Saturday David and I were able to photography Michael and Mari's wedding. It was a warm 85 degree's, a nice change to the 50 degree weather in Seattle. It was such a beautiful wedding. Filled with anticipation and excitement. Mari looked stunning and I think Michael was speechless ;)

I love this family. They are some of the nicest, loving, genuine people you will meet. So laid back. I had the pleasure of photographing Emily when she was just 3 months old. And now, she is just over a year old! Her personality has only grown. She was just starting to giggle at 3 months. Now she is laughing and giggling and soo smiley. She is one happy girl. And always on the move! I jut love this little face!

So on facebook, sometimes people share too much information... we call that an over-share. Well, here, I am going to do an over share of photos. There were just too many good ones! We hiked all over Discovery Park and lost track of time. It ended up being a 4 hour photoshoot! We knew it would be a little longer with the hike down to the water, so we planned a little picnic on the beach... yumm! Good way to break of the smiling and posing. I freaking love these pictures. A gorgeous and fun couple. A beautiful day. And a perfect setting. It just works.

Ya... sending these pics to Lululemon. Even pregnant women LOVE their pants, and everyone should have a pair! These should go on their walls.

Senior 2011 {Sydney}

Love the lighting in the first shots. It's like a halo around her head. Sydney brought a couple friends to help make her laugh, and they were good at that! Most of the pictures I have are of her laughing. This was one of my more lively and entertaining senior shoots. It involved rolling around on the grass laughing, chasing chickens- err roosters, dancing and singing to various songs and almost being eaten by leech/leafs. Feew! Thank goodness we don't have leeches here!

What a cutie!? This little guy was so fun to shoot. Full of smiles and laughter and curiosity. I loved watching him wobble around the yard. Still getting used to standing on those legs. This first image was the very first shot of the day. Seems so intrigued with this huge camera in his face. And I think he inhaled a banana faster than I have ever seen before. I love the shot with his mouth full. Sucha boy!

I love babies! The arrival of a precious little bundle is one of the most special moments in a mom or dads life. I was thrilled to be able to be there for theirs. Although, everything happened in lightening speed I didn't arrive until 5 minutes after she was born. Still, you can't miss that excitement in mom's eye or loving touch of dad to baby's foot. What a special night. These 2 are already excellent parents!

I can't believe the weather we have gotten recently. I have actually taken a bit of break from checking the weather channel.... well, I've decreased from 3 times a day to 1! This sun is amazing!

It was the perfect day for a beach shoot. 75 degrees and late morning with less crowds.

Miss 'A' is a teacher who is loved by the parents at her school. She won a photoshoot during Teacher Appreciation week. And what a sweet little girl they have, who recently turned 3. Thank goodness for slides and ice cream! Making smiling a million times worth it in the end.

I know, I know... I have been really bad about blogging lately. I have been soooo busy! No excuses though. I'm back.

I was thrilled to find an exceptional breeder of Labrador Retriever's in David and I's hunt to find out own. They came highly recommended by friends and family. When Kathy saw I was a photographer, we agreed to do a bit of swap... puppy for pictures. Could it get any better?! We have since picked out our adorable little black lab, and get to bring him home in 2 weeks. (I will post some pictures soon). Today we were blessed with some incredible weather to take their family pictures.

I just love the colors in these images below. The are so sweet and vibrant. Much like this family. Jonathan is an avid photographer himself. So they have gobs of gorgeous photos of their little one, and each of them with her, but not a whole lot of the three of them together. So that's where I come in! They had such a beautiful yard we had to use it for the outdoor shots, lilacs and cherry blossoms and lot's of green! So beautiful!

We safely arrived at home, after a very, very, very long 11 hour flight. I am so glad to be home!

Our last night Day 10

We woke up early (8:30) and ate a ginormous break

fast before heading out to the GREAT WALL. It was a long drive out there. But it was so cool, when we got closer to it, every now and then we would get a glimpse of it up high in the mountains. We finally arrived and bought our tickets. The location we went to was very speicial. We took a chair lift up the mountain and got out on the wall. It was a breath taking morning. Sun was out, a bit windy, and some snow still on the ground. The wall is even cooler up close. We hiked up to the tallest point still intact, which took about 45 minutes to go a quarter mile. It is so crazy how steep some of the sections are .Some places you are using your hands and feet to climb, straight up. We were lucky to come in the morning, and off peak tourist season, so there weren't too many people up there. We got some pictures with no one in the background. David said that was a special treat. The last time he was here it was Summer time,and packed! We made our way back to where started, and couldn't go any further. Our legs were shaking Not that we got such a strenuous work out going up and down, but, going up and down at these inclines used muscles in our legs we didn't know we had. This location was also special, becuase we got to take toboggans down the hill! It was super fast and rickety, but tons of fun! I tried to take some pictures on the way down, but they yelled at us, "No camera!". It was so fun and scary, I wanted to do it again! The rest of the day we just re

laxed. Took a nap and then went to get one last foot massage. We were starving for dinner when we were done, when we stumbled upo

n a, Papa John's Pizza! What a great way to spend the last night here. Eating Papa Johns and a watermelon we bought from a street vendor (and my Starbucks).

We are getting ready to come home now! 12 hour flight ahead of us. Hooray!

Day 9

Ate a Western Breakfast this morning, not quite as good as the last hotels. No lychee fruits:(. Checked out of one hotel and in to another, a bit out of the city center.MUCH nicer. Comfy Western bed. So grateful for a soft bed, I quite sore from the last one. After we got settled we took a cab to the Forbidden City. Much larger than I expected.Very interesting history too. Sort of wish we would have been in a guided tour, because there must be tons more information we don't get from reading the little signs. We had tons of people come up to us and ask to be our 'tour guide' with their shoddy English. Or, people wanting to sell us art, that David knew was a scam. So, since we sort of look Italian, we decide to respond with 'Italian' instead of English as our way of saying 'no'. We only know 1 or 2 words, and one of them is food. But, they don't know that. So when people would ask us if we wanted to buy their art, we would respond with "Ciao, rigatoni?" And they would look very confused and say sorry and walk away. It was very amusing to us. After that we went to a shopping center for lunch, Peking duck. David told me it would taste like chicken. If you're wondering, NO, it does not taste like chicken. Then I found an H&M! But realized it

was even more expensive than home. We then spent the afternoon trying to find another Shi Jia (foot massage). We found a 'spa' of sorts that would do it, more expensive than the last though. At first I thought all the women were giggling because Americans were there to get a foot massage. But then I realized they were giggling because a man was there to get a massage. Poor David. When we were done, 5 of them walked us to the door and waved goodbye for a good minute or so before we were out of sight. Haha... Since we can't read Chinese, we had to find a restaurant with pictures. These resturaunts are usually in the malls. We found a good one, with pictures and English! Mom, they had Hot and Sour soup! It looks just like the kind we have, but tastes very vinegary. Also found spring rolls, filled with shrimp, but, still good. We wanted some soy sauce to dip them in, so David got our his english/chinese translating book to find the word for soy sauce. We asked one server, then 2, then 5 of them were all at our table trying to figure out what he meant. They thought we didn't like our spring rolls, then they thought we wanted a beer, then they thought we didn't get everything we ordered. Finally, I asked for 'soya sauce' which is written on the bottles, and they all said "OH! soya sauce!!!" aaahhahah. Funny. Side note. I love their English translations. On the plane, there was a napkin that read- You are welcome to fly our plane service. And on a road sign it read- Bon Voyage on you trip, thank you for your welcome. That was my favorite. Super excited to se

Day 8

This morning we flew back to Beijing for the last leg of our trip. We got to our hotel which is right in the heart of the city, maybe 2 blocks away from Tian' amen square... but it had the typical Chinese bed. Basically, the springs are about an inch below the surface of the matress, so it's incredibly hard and uncomfortable. So we decided to find another hotel for the last 2 nights, but would suffer through that night. After booking another hotel we went in search for some lunch/dinner, and stumbled upon McDonald's. I really just wanted to see if they had any cool Asian flare to their menu, but, they didn't, and, since we were already there.... we decided to have lunch/dinner. Mmmm, western food. A very large shopping mall was next door, so we decided to walk around. It had all the very expensive stores in it, like Armani and Burburry. And here, they are even more expensive than home. But, they did have a Shing Ba Ka (Starbucks!). I can afford that. On our way home we stopped in a little shop to see if we could get a Shi Jiao (foot massage). Not a good idea... so we scrapped that and just went back to the hotel. The swimming pool sounded like a good idea, until we were told we needed to wear a swim cap to go in. We didn't want to pay for one, so they handed us shower caps. Too bad we were the only ones in the pool that night. We sure looked funny. I guess it's just to keep the pool clean, because they also had this wading pool of water you had to walk through from the locker room the the deck, that was freezing! Either for cleanliness or they think it's cool because the professionals wear them. Interesti

Chongqing. Days 6 & 7

Day 7

Had another delicious Western Breakfast! Another bowl full of lychee's. Once we devoured all we

could, we made a trip to Shing Ba Ka (Starbucks) to get my regular, iced tea. Our friends met us at the hotel and we showed them some of the pictures we have taken so far.I think they liked them :). Then they presented us with gifts. Going away presents is part of their culture.I

received a cute little halter top, some silk purses and a gorgeous umbrella. I was blown away by their generosity. I felt very loved. Below is a picture of our friends. We had to go to the train station shortly after, leaving with plenty of time... so we thought. But no one really knew how to get there. And after getting quite lost, David and I had to jump in a taxi to take us the rest of

the way. Made it just in time too! Good thing these drivers here are crazy, and there aren't really and rules... otherwise we wouldn't have made it. On the train, there was a little girl, maybe 1 years old, that walked near our seats. She was looking the opposite direction of us, to a lady who was talking to her. Then the lady told her to turn around and look at the Laowai (white people), us. When she did, and saw us, she immediately burst in to tears. Awesome. It's swelteringly hot here, and we just about melted as we disembarked the train and waiting in line, for an hour, to hail a taxi. But we made it back to our friends house in time for dinner. Korean food tonight. Mmm, pork belly. We also stopped by the local Kodak store to see some prints and binding features they have. Interesting

designs here. Got a few examples to bring back home. Came home, and the power went out. But, no worries, it happens a lot. We all played with my photobooth for awhile tonight. So funny to watch everyone distort their faces. Good times. Now we are packing, shoving all of our stuff in to our little suitcases so we can fly to Beijing in the morning

Day 6

Our hotel comes with a Western breakfast. Yumm! I ate an entire bowl full of Lychee fruits. So delicious! There were donuts with REAL chocolate topping. I could have eating 20 of them. But best of all, I had scrambled eggs and bacon! From breakfast we were picked up by our friends and headed out towards an area on the outskirts of town

that is not as developed yet. It's called Super University. They build two major schools just for students in the

middle of nowhere. So we pretended we were students and rode around the campus on bikes. After that we

went shopping at a market in town. I picked up a couple fancy umbrellas to use for photoshoots. So pretty. David and I also got dressed up in traditional wedding attire and had our pictures taken. Horrible looking backgrounds, but cool dresses! Yep, this was my favorite part of the day :). Then we went to the part of town in which David lived for his year stint here. He pointed up at his apt. window for me to see, and took us to a resturaunt he used to frequent. Everyone has been telling me to check out the stationary here. I thought it would be great to see what kind of designs they like.... nothing like 'stationary' to our standards. Basically a journal book with random drawings and really bad english sayings. Funny. I still bought 3 of them. After all the shopping adentures we headed out to the

'river' which is more like a stream now. Huge drought here. But we took a boat ride up

and down the river to look at the city lights. Plenty of city lights for about 10 minutes amusement. And a couple fun pictures. By the time we made it back to 'land' we were exhausted. Love coming back to a clean room though! Too bad the air conditioning doesn't work and the temp is stuck at 26.5 Celsius. What's that in Farenheight? Here is our fancy hotel room robes :).

Silk and Trains. Day 4 & 5

Day 5

We got up early to take the train out to the next city. A very unique experience to say the least. So interesting how one area is so populated and built up, and in between the next, is absolutely nothing but rice. The train was super fast and made my ears pop a lot. I guess thats good! Some of Davids friends met us at the train depot and drove us to our hotel. We threw our bags in our room and went out for some Chinese fast food. The kind where you point at the picture to order. It upset my stomach, no more fast food for me. Once I recovered from that, we visited a park on top of a hill. I thad a great 360 view of the city. It's crazy, that Seattle is not even 1/16th the size of this cities bu

idlings. Imagine Seattle's highrises, times 1000. That's what it looks like. After that, I got to go to Wal- Mart!

Highlight! The most different Wal-Mart I have been to (we visit one in each place we travel). Picked up lot's of tea and candy. That was

about it. I learned how to take the metro back, instead of being lazy and taking a taxi. It wasn't so bad. And with the money we saved from the taxi fare, we got 'foot washes'. $10 for 100 min

utes of foot and back massage. They soak your feet in tea first

(to get rid of the smell). Super relaxing, and much needed after all the walking we have done. From there we headed to hot pot with his friends. Individual hot pot. Yummy! My favorite vegetable

tonight was the pumpkin. I like David's friends a lot. They are funny, and make fun of him a lot

. One of the ladies JUST got her driver's license, and rented a van for the day to take us around.

The drivers here are crazy. Not bad drivers, just crazy. You have to be a really good driver to survive the 'no rules' mentality ( you know, if there is a long line of people turning left and no one tuning right, get in the right lane to turn left with everyone

else....or if there is a lot of traffic going one way and not the other, use one of the other sides lanes...). Did I mention she is American, and

JUST got her license? She will be driving us around all day tomorrow.....

Day 4

This morning we went out the square and to a nice park and did some family pictures. We drew crowds of people as onlookers, as, it must appear very strange for a foreigner to be taking pictures of

a family there. From there we headed to a whole in the wall (literally) lunch spot. Homemade noodles, made right in front of you. They were the best noodles I have ever tasted. After that we went in

search of some silk. Found some neat purses and robes and jackets at several different markets. I also picked up some cool paintbrushes. More authentic food for dinner. Spicy spicy spicy. I did

recognize one dish! Kung Pao Chicken. Yumm. We ended the evenning with a Chinese Opera, which isn't the opera we know

of, it's more of a variety show. A fun cultural lesson of sorts. I am

surprised I made it through thte entire thing with out falling asleep! It ended at 9:30, which, is 30 minutes past the time I hit a wal

l, here. Oh, I must also mention, this was the first time I had to

use a 'squatty'. It wasn't so bad, minus the smell and puddles where you stand.When we got home we had to quickly packa bag for the mornings trip to another town to visit some more of David's friends.

Panda's! Day 3

DAY 3

Finishing up last nights fun... hot pot was HOT! I am pretty sure I am going to loose a pound or two from how much I sweat at each meal. It is so good though. Several different versions of tofu I didn't know existed, and some really cool stringy mushrooms. My favorite was the cucumber! After dinner we walked around back to the apt. and stopped off for for ice cream. David convinced me that the ice cream shaped like corn was really good. I tried it. It tasted like, corn. Too bad there really aren't any nutrients in that, it would be a whole lot easier to get kids to eat their vegetables that way!

After ice cream, we headed to the large courtyard area thing. We heard there was dancing at night. Boy, was there dancing! The entire courtyard, bigger than a football field, was packed with people dancing. All different kinds of dancing and people learning to dance. Some very interesting styles and moves. I think my mouth was wide open for a couple minutes. David, he jumped right in and started dancing. Fit right in! Several people stopped in front of me to pose for a picture. At first I put my camera down, embarrassed that they thought I was trying to take a picture of them, but when they stood there- smiling and waving, waiting... I realized they wanted a picture taken. A whole family stopped and held up there son, then ran over to look at the picture. It was the highlight of my day!

Today, we went to the Panda Reserve. Our driver gave us a personal tour of the facilities, he said his wife worked there, and fed the panda's. We got there early so they were pretty active. I even got to hold a Red Panda! (hence the button in the picture below). I didn't realize until later, how dangerous that actually was. But, anything for a picture, right?!!

After the panda's we went to a very laaaarge wholesale market. Unlike anything I have ever seen. I don't even know how to describe it....

When we got home after that, we took one of our little friends to get our hair washed. For $2.50 I got a 15 minute head massage, shampoo and conditioned, a little back massage, my ears cleaned (bonus!) and a blow dry. Woot! David got a haircut, but the only trimmed the sides, not the top, so he has a puffy afro.

I tried some cucumber flavored potato chips... taste like, cucumbers. There's also blueberry flavored, cherry red tomato, and some other spicy flavor... anyone want some interesting chips as a souvenir?

We have arrived! Days 1 & 2

DAY 1

12 hour plane ride... was not fun. Still congested and not able to fully pop my ears. Not as painful as I thought it would be, but, pretty uncomfortable. Had to pretend I wasn't sick so I wouldn't be quarantined when passing through customs. Sickness is taken pretty seriously here after the Swine outbreak. Let's just say it's a REALLY good thing I didn't have a temperature!

The seats on the plane were not made for white people, as both of our knees were hitting the seat in front of us. I won't even mention the food.

Got in to Beijing in the early evening. It had just snowed, so our taxi ride to the hotel was beautiful. Not at all what I had expected. Large trees lined the streets dusted in snow, people still riding bikes in the slush, pulling in to the hotel with the large arching snow topped gates looked like something out of an old movie.

We arrived exhausted, ready for bed- only to realize it was just 7:00pm. I went to sleep anyways. And woke up at 3:00am wide eyed.

Below is our picture in our hotel room. This is how we felt. Me: exhausted and sick. David: super excited.

DAY 2

Flight to a city 3 hours South West of Beijing in the early a.m.. Dissapointed in the breakfast options... no Starbucks :( Met up with some friends and got a tour of the city. More of a homey feel than Beijing. Had my first REAL Chinese food. Suuuuper spicy, and very different from American Chinese. Mom- no Hot and Sour soup, but lot's of white rice. Buckets full! David and I went to a market similar to Walmart. Got some interesting candy. We are gettng ready to head out for some Hot Pot now! Tomorrow, we go to the Panda Reserve!

Camera's, check. Lenses, check. Memory cards, check. Extra memory cards, check. Extra, extra memory cards, check. Computer, check.

The most important part about getting ready for a trip is not my clothes, not the reading material I will have on the plane, or the snacks in my purse (which, in my family, is REALLY important), it's my camera!

We are all set to take off for China tomorrow morning! Doing a little tourism, meeting up with some friends, taking some family pictures, and eating lot's of good food! Or, maybe, just a lot of rice.

We are so excited for this adventure. Well, I was so excited until I developed this really nasty cold, TODAY! Sinus' are clogged and ears won't pop! I can't imagine an 11 hour plane ride with out being able to pop my ears, yikes, that landing will be painful.

Really, I am excited. I have been to a lot of places- the Philippines, Mexico, Europe, South Africa... but, none of them are quite like China. I am pumped to explore this culture...minus the whole, squatty toilet thing.

Hoping to be able to post a picture every couple days and a little info as to what we are doing. But, I have no idea what the internet access will be like.

What a gorgeous day we were blessed with today. It's only March, but it feels like Spring has already arrived. This little sweet pea turned 6 months yesterday. What a great way to celebrate with some pictures of the family. Such a fun family. I had the best time with them. We were all sweating! from the sun, but, I walked away with tons of fabulous pictures. I mean, so many, that it was SO hard for me to choose just a few. Well, here they are...

Note to self, when it's super nice out, and the weekend, Gasworks Park is going to be suuuuper crowded. But who cares, it was gorgeous out... and these guys were absolutely adorable. Their cute little doggies couldn't bear to be away from them, even if it was only 5 feet.

I will pretty much do anything, to get a really awesome picture. Yes, even climb to the top of Poo Poo Point. I know, I am totally out of shape. And yes, I am already sore and nursing some blisters.... but, c'mon. Look at these pictures! The day was absolutely perfect for a hike. The sun was a the right spot for glorious light. The couple was adorable and fun. And...the view wasn't too bad ;).

I love to capture something meaningful and hiking, is their 'thing'. They even got engaged up here! How could we NOT do their engagement pictures here? I think it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I will keep telling myself that tomorrow when my muscles are so sore I can't move them.... heh heh.

I arrived 55 minutes after this little guy entered the world. So far, my favorite time to show up, is about an hour after birth. I get to capture all of these 'first'. First bath, shots, footprints, shirt being put on and family holding them. This little guy had the best faces, and the most relaxed demeanor. But, most of all, I loved his hair! And so blessed, to have a huge loving family there to welcome him in to their world.

"Kris was laid off from his job last March and in the mean time, our 2nd set of twins was born (October) which meant we suddenly had 4 kids under 2! He's also going to school full time which leaves me alone quite a bit of the time with all 4.

David and I just got back from visiting our friends in San Diego. Right amidst their craz thunderstorms and flooding! Somehow, we were blessed with an incredibly beautiful day on Saturday. So we took advantage of it, and did some family pictures around the University of San Diego.

I can't even begin to explain how sweet this little girl was. Just looking at these pictures makes me smile. She was so happy and giggly, that she made me, happy and giggly. I loved all the little faces she made at me or at her parents. Most of all, I love her hair!

You can't really tell in these pictures, but it was pouring rain today. With Brooke due in about 4 weeks, we said "rain or shine" we are shooting today! I love the colors in these pictures, so vibrant and fun. Brooke is absolutely gorgeous, and the most relaxed and easy going pregnant woman I've met!

Turned out to be a gorgeous day in Seattle, unlike the predicted rain showers! Woohoo!

Such a cute little family. This little boy had tons of energy! At the very end, he got to go puddle jumping. This was my favorite part of the session. His face was hilarious when he went to jump in the puddle for the first time, pure JOY!

A bit of a rough start to the morning with wrong google directions and park closers... we eventually made it though!

Even in freezing degree weather, this family looks gorgeous! This little girl was full of personality and just so adorable. The little guy could only sit still for so long, but he had the cutest little smile. Such a loving brother and sister... my favorite is the one with the 2 of them in Santa hats!
